The guys at Starboard Australia over in WA have given us 2 Starboard inflatable paddleboards to take on the trip.
Warrick and I started paddleboarding in 2013 and just couldn’t imagine not taking boards with us… the only problem was room as we already have a tinnie on the roof!
Ian at Auswind had the solution to our problem… inflatable stand up paddleboards. We are travelling with a 2014 Starboard Astro Tourer (the blue one that Fab rides) and the same model from 2013 (Warrick’s red one). Everyone is amazed at how stable and ‘hard’ they are for inflatable boards.
We take them in the rivers, bays and even in small surf as they have a great rocker (banana shape) that ensures they don’t nose dive in the surf.
It takes Warrick about 5 min to pump them with the hand pump (Fab takes about 10 min)… if we are close to the car we simply use the compressor ;). They fit in a large backpack, as you can see on the image below.
