What we loved the most about Port Douglas was the super warm ocean. We had put Port Douglas on our itinerary as a last stop on the way to Cape York… but we has such a fabulous time that we stopped there on the way back from the Cape.
Port Douglas is a funny little town…. when you turn your head left you will see wanna-be-hippies and a second later you will run into well-off Sydneysiders on their annual, lavish holiday. It is a very strange blend but it seems to work quite well. The town has a ton of restaurants and is booming with tourism. Visitors have so much to choose from there that every cafe and restaurant seems to compete on the level of customer service…. and we were highly impressed!
On the way south we stopped for 3 nights at the magnificent Thala Beach Nature Reserve, a stunning eco-resort located between Port Douglas and Cairns. OMG… Warrick and I had a taste of what a honeymoon could be made of! We made a note to return once we kindly ask grandma and grandpa to babysit!
Port Douglas is definitely well worth a visit if you have young children!
