Did you know that Agnes Water’s beach was patrolled by lifesavers all year round? It is gorgeous and located right in the centre of town.
What do you like about being a lifeguard?
I like coming to the beach every day, working by the ocean, giving information, helping out people, telling people where to swim, obviously the safety side – we try and provide a safe swimming environment so… giving education to people like where to swim. Also about the marine stingers. I like being on the coast and having a job where you get to be on the beach. It is cooler with the sea breeze!
You meet nice people, tourists and occasionally go for a paddle and get wet myself. It is a lifestyle
Do you have any memorable rescues?
Last week with the northerlies we had quite rippy conditions and we rescued a couple of people who had been taken a fair way out with the current. One in particular, a person who had been swept out quite a distance – we got him on the board and brought in and back in.
Obviously they were very thankful that you were on the beach?
Yes very relieved! If it wasn’t for me being there it probably would have been a different story.
What do you do in your spare time?
Outside of work surfing is my passion. Here at agnes we get a little right hand point break wave that happens occasionally. Agnes is also great place for longboarding.
I like going stand up paddling in the 1700 estuary. And catching the odd sunset over a beer with transiting backpackers at the Tree lookout.
Where is your favourite place to eat out?
I like the tavern it is reasonably cheap and a good place to eat out. You have your cheap steak nights on Tuesday and Thursday. You get a really good wood-fired pizza.
Best place in town for coffee?
The beach cafe here (Agnes Water Beach Cafe) located in the Agnes Water Beach Caravan Park is a great place for coffee. Bustards Cafe as well.
