Let’s be honest here – one of the things that enticed us to put Tasmania on our bucket list is the dozens of boutique wineries that take advantage of the state’s fertile land and clean air. Wine is made of 100% fruit so let’s indulge guilt-free I say.
One of the wineries we absolutely loved was Spring Vale located just north of Swansea, on the Freycinet coast. It is family owned and operated and was established almost 30 years ago. The heritage-listed cellar-door is nestled in an old stone stable where the the ambiance truly adds to the wine tasting experience.
What really stood out for us was the pop up restaurant in the vineyard! Yes, ladies and gentlemen, at Spring Vale you can have a gourmet meal to complement your grapes! I had the salmon with lemon aioli and Warrick chose the warm lamb salad! We kept the girls busy with foccacia cooked in the pizza oven and tried to celebrate an early valentine’s day. The restaurant and the cellar door is open every day (no bookings required for less than 5 people).
The vineyard specialises in cold climate wines such as Pinot noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Gewurtztraminer and Bubbly. We left with 12 bottles of Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris to keep us company while we explore Tassie. We liked the experience so much that we had to visit again for a second visit this afternoon… and came back with bubbly this time!
Spring Vale winery is caravan-friendly: once you come through the stone gate swing to the left and park on the grass next to the vines. From there you will easily be able to do a u-turn for exiting.
You can either buy your wine at the cellar door or order over the phone or online. They also have specials with free postage Australia-wide. For more info and orders, visit www.springvalewines.com
Cheers!
